It’s a known fact that Hirakami cannot possibly keep up with the money being spent on this election by the other high profile, career politicians that also are in the race for the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor. Therefore, Hirakami has decided to run an environmentally friendly campaign using no plastic signs, no plastic banners, no flyers and mailouts, no paid commercials. Hirakami has decided to finance his own campaign and not ask people for donations. Instead, Hirakami has been asking them to pass the word electronically. Will it be effective enough? Hirakami is willing to take the chance. It’s also a matter of logistics: Hirakami is fully employed; he sits on various boards and commissions and doesn’t have the luxury of campaigning full time. His duties as director of a charter school and the busy time in August and September of starting a new school year directly conflicts with the time Hirakami should be out in public sign waving and hand-shaking.
